Luis Felipe Flores-Suárez, M.D., Ph.D.
Luis Felipe Flores-Suárez (Mexico City) is a Board Certified Internist and Rheumatologist, graduated from the Faculty of Medicine, Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México and the Instituto Nacional de Ciencias Médicas y Nutrición, where he remained as staff physician and clinical investigator at the Department of Immunology and Rheumatology (until February 2009). In August 2009 he founded the Primary Systemic Vasculitides Clinic at the Instituto Nacional de Enfermedades Respiratorias, Mexico City (August 2009-present), and is Professor of the Specialty Course in Primary Systemic Vasculitides and of the Postgraduate Masters and Doctorate Program in Medical Sciences (Faculty of Medicine, Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México) (2011-present). In 2007 he chaired the 13th International Vasculitis and ANCA Workshop (Cancún, Mexico). He belongs to the National System of Researchers (Mexico) and the National Academy of Medicine (Mexico). His interests are on autoimmune rheumatological diseases and their impact on internal organs (systemic lupus erythematosus, rheumatoid arthritis). Since 1995 his focus is on primary systemic vasculitides, mainly large and small vessel vasculitides (principally ANCA-associated) having obtained his Ph.D. at the Faculty of Clinical Medicine Mannheim, Ruperto Carola University, Heidelberg, Germany in 1999 (Magna cum laude). He has established an interdisciplinary network in Mexico for the study of these diseases and is member of the European Vasculitis Society. He also serves as Consultant of the Vasculitis Foundation (USA) and the patients´ group Vasculitis Sistémicas México, A.C. He has being part of the Executive Committees of the Mexican Colleges of Internal Medicine and Rheumatology. He has given over 300 talks in national and international meetings. He has 82 published articles in peer-reviewed journals plus 18 book chapters.
